4th June 2010
“The stronger one is the one who can absorb the violence and anger from the other and change it to love and understanding. It is not easy; it is a lot of work. But this is the real jihad.”

Shaikh Abdul Aziz al-Bukhari
This week, the sad news was announced of the passing away of Shaikh Abdul Aziz al-Bukhari. The world has lost a rare scholar and peacemaker. Based in Jerusalem, and a direct descendant of the great Imam al-Bukhari (d.870), Shaikh Abdul Aziz travelled the world and spread messages of peace and pluralism. As official adviser and guest of honour at Quilliam’s launch in 2008, he spoke with deep wisdom and serenity about western Muslims.

Shaikh al-Bukhari is survived by a wife and six children, whose families are based across Jerusalem, Gaza and the USA.
Quilliam co-directors said,
"In these troubled times, Shaikh al-Bukhari was a reminder of the need to resolve conflict through dialogue and peace talks. Quilliam has been blessed by his presence and advice since our inception. He remains an inspiration for Muslims who seek genuine peace in the Middle East and beyond. His family and followers are in our thoughts".
