George is co-author of Skin-Deep Democracy: How race, religion and ethnicity continue to affect Westminster politics, a major report looking at how equality of treatment and opportunity can be guaranteed for all British citizens, whatever their background. His research has also examined what role university education has in radicalisation, ways to improve the government’s ‘Prevent’ programme and other related topics.

 

George is a also a regular contributor to national and international print, radio and television media, appearing on the BBC, al-Hurra, LBC radio and others. 

He holds a First Class degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. In addition to his language studies at SOAS, George focused on the origins of Islamic jurisprudential traditions and the influence of Islamist narratives on contemporary British discourse surrounding Islam. He has also spent time living in Malaysia and Syria. George is a member of the Labour party.
