On April 14 2009, Quilliam Director Maajid Nawaz was hosted by Prosperitas and The Center for Citizen Peace Building as the guest of honor for a special event at the University of California, Irvine.

The event was entitled 'Transformation Into Tolerance: One Man's Journey’ where Maajid spoke about his journey from Islamism to mainstream Islam and inclusive politics. He also conducted a class seminar about conflict resolution, with a particular focus on whether religion causes conflict as a case study. The conclusion of the class was that religion does not cause conflict per se, however conflict arises when religion is used by people with a political agenda.

After the event, Maajid Nawaz spent time speaking to students on a one to one basis answering their queries.
