Maajid Nawaz speaks at the IGPB Conference - Belfast

On Wedesday May 7th 2008 Quilliam Foundation's Director Maajid Nawaz and external consultant Dawud Masieh travelled to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to attend the International Global Peace Builders conference organised by Global Peace Builders, Springboard. The conference brought together hundreds of grassroots peace initiatives as a networking and learning opportunity in the field of conflict resolution. Included amongst the speakers were Sean Murray a former Republican paramilitary, and Billly Hutchinson, a former Loyalist paramilitary and member of Parliament. Maajid spoke as part of a 'Question Time' Q&A session chaired by Northern Ireland's Chief Commissioner for Human Rights and signatory to the Good Friday Peace Agreement, Professor Monica McWilliams.

The day before, Tuesday May 6th, Maajid Nawaz and Dawud Masieh were taken by Springboard on a tour of Northern Ireland's conflict zones, their tour included passing the infamous Republican Falls Road and the Loyalist Shankhill Road areas. They also stopped to visit local community outreach programmes on either side of the 'Peace Wall' that divides Belfast into Catholic and Protestant areas.
