Maajid Nawaz speaks at the International Institute for Strategic Studies

The director of the Quilliam Foundation, Maajid Nawaz, delivered an insightful and compelling lecture at the IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies). Chaired by Nigel Inkster, the event was well-attended by academics, diplomats, parliamentarians, and risk analysts. Maajid spoke about the prelude to terrorism in the form of an Islamist ideology that seeks to put state legislation on a par with sacred law (Shariah). Wherever Islamist groups have operated, jihadists have emerged as a result of several factors, not least frustration with politics, but further misinterpretation of already misunderstood Islamist approaches to scripture.
