Recognising Maajid's thought leadership on countering extremism through Quilliam and its sister organisation Khudi, Ted invited Maajid to speak at its high-profile TED Global (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) annual conference about the power of ideas in Edinburgh in July 2011. In his talk Maajid asked why transnational extremist organisations succeed where democratic movements have a harder time taking hold.
